During an inspection at Kleinbrak drop off site earlier today I found that residents in the area dumped asbestos illegally. This is a criminal offence in terms of the National Waste Act and is reported at the SAPS. Should a person be found dumping he/she can be fined up to R100 000 or imprisonment of up to 10 years or both. I therefore kindly request that you please communicate with residents/neighbourhood watches and encourage them, that should they see someone dumping illegally they should take photos and report it to us so we can follow up and issue the necessary fines. We can only win this if we, take hands and fight this together. Residents previously complained that the one skip was not enough, and we placed an additional skip for them, but they continue dumping illegally.
